It’s hard to believe that our little baby is already a few months old! Now we’re taking a look back and remembering some of the items that we just couldn’t live without. During the first few months, all toys and other forms of entertainment were completely unnecessary for us. Instead it was all about sleeping, feeding and changing. And so this list is primarily items that made those things easier.
So first and foremost: Diapers and Wipes!!!!
Ok…so other than the obvious..
1. Blankets: Fuzzy & Flannel Receiving
The number one thing that we found to be the most useful were tons of blankets! We use them to lay him down on the sofa or floor, to keep him warm, even to use as a makeshift changing pad if the necessity calls. Now that he’s figured out how to use his hands, he uses them to play hide and seek with us.
These are much-needed, cuz babies spit up and drool a lot. Love the Aden + Anais ones cuz they’re super soft and absorbent. But since you need go through so many washcloths a day, we need to have a variety of them to keep up with all the spit up. Good thing is that they can always double as burp cloths when you’re in a pinch, or vice versa.
3. White noise app
Definitely we were skeptical about this thing before. I mean, yeah we read all about those baby sound machines, but we’re thought we don’t need that. We’ll just play some baby lullabies. But they did not work! Then we realised how quiet he got when we were vacuuming or running the blender, we realized we needed to try this white noise thing. The best thing about this app, is that we didn’t have to buy a new piece of equipment, just download the app!
Another piece of the bedtime routine that we didn’t understand but just somehow magically works! We wrap him in the swaddle, once he’s sung and cozy in there, he starting sleeping for longer periods of time during the night. I think that it helps to reduce the Moro Reflex (that startle reflex) from waking himself up. Of course now he’s starting to wriggle his way out of it, but it’s time to start transitioning him away from the swaddle anyways.
This one is definitely a preference thing. I know a lot of parents get their babies into the habit of sleeping in their cribs from day 1. This is really great, but for us, it was just too tiring to constantly wake up and travel to the next room. We much preferred being able to pick the baby out of the bassinet and feed him without having to get out of the bed. This bassinet is made for that concept, it adjusts to the height of the bed and swivels around. Plus the walls are somewhat flexible so you can pull the wall down slightly while you’re reaching down to grab the baby.
Bonus: Travel hand sanitizer
This is a bonus item that will really only if and when you actually start venture outside with the little babes. It’s always good to have because you never know what you’re going to end up touching and when you’re going to need to console a cranky baby.
Let us know what items you found to be the most useful during items those crazy first months!
This is not a sponsored list, really and truly just the actual items we couldn’t live without for those first 2 months.
